Jen Murphy
Host Club:

"It was Jen Murphy hosting '6 Chicks and a Chair at the Hollywood Improv - very funny, commentary about the wildfires in CA, great crowd work, joked about guys who like porn.

Karen Haber
Host Club:
Improv - Hollywood, CA
"Karen Haber took the first slot in the '6 Chicks and a Chair at the Hollywood Improv Show' looking for her soul mate, even though she’s married. She covered her escapades with male prostitutes, love of Dog the Bounty Hunter and what her shrink thinks about that. Scheduling conflicts with having kids and a strange encounter at her kids soccer practice.

Monrok Madan
Host Club:
Improv - Hollywood, CA
"Monrok Madan was next at the '6 Chicks and a Chair at the Hollywood Improv Show' very funny with a dry sharp delivery. She starts off talking about her hatred of all things, including Reese Witherspoon, swimming, Caucasian babies, and myspace. By the way visit her at www.myspace.com/monrok. She then rails on men who own cats and the troubles with growing up with Indian parents that practice nudism.

Lisa Cafiero
Host Club:
Improv - Hollywood, CA
"Lisa Cafiero followed Monok Madan at the '6 Chicks and a Chair Show' at the Hollywood Improv. Lisa claims to be the perfect woman for pedophiles (she looks underage, but she’s not). Then on to her Jewish/Italian heritage. Then it was dating abusive and stupid men. Her solution. A chewing gum to break the addiction to assholes. Like Nicorette. She also talks about the perils of being an east coast girl living in LA.

Sandy Brown
Host Club:
Improv - Hollywood, CA
"Sandy Brown took the stage next for '6 Chicks and a Chair Show' at the Hollywood Improv.starting with her take on the difference between being a kid in the 70’s and today. Then on to the Prince performance at last years Superbowl. Then she found the humor being a black comic performing in Orange County in front of skinheads. Two trips to entertain the troops in Afghanistan was their any surprise at how 'excited' the troops were to finally see a woman they weren’t serving with after 10 months.

Dinah Leffert
Host Club:
Improv - Hollywood, CA
"Dinah Leffert 'The Valley’s Funniest Person 2006' couldn’t resist taking the stage for '6 Chicks and a Chair Show' at the Hollywood Improv. From the start this edgy comic starts off talking about drug addiction to cure a broken heart. Dinah explored how her parents treated her growing up as the youngest. Very funny and dirty.

Jay Cramer
Host Club:
Improv - Hollywood, CA
"Jay Cramer, the 'Chair' in '6 Chicks and a Chair Comedy Show' at the Hollywood Improv took the stage. Proceeds from the show helped Jay pay for a new van. He had a mountain climbing accident and broke his neck. That’s what put him in the chair. Jay started out a funny bit about how his friends treat him now that he is 'handicapped' and how much Spongebob Squarepants helped him through his ordeal. He talks about how he fell off a mountain and broke his neck 2 years ago. He also gives us the do’s and don’ts of being Medivac’d . He then talked about meeting his new girlfriend in physical rehab and how she happens to be a legless sprinter. He ended talking about what it would be like stranded with the Donner party when 2/3’s of your body is useless, and how he deals with curious kids wanting to know about his wheelchair.

Heath Hyche
Host Club:
Improv - Dallas, TX
Last night was another house rocking comedy night at the Addison Improv with Heath Hyche.
The talent that club brings to DFW is amazing. Heath is a multi-talented stick of
dynamite. Completely original but doing comedy in a league with the best of the
tradition. You can't help but think of Red Skelton. He is that good, no, he's better.
If you've never seen Heath, you've never really experienced comedy immersion. Heath
takes the art beyond the traditional "man and a mic", he is comedy iMax. Thanks to the
Addison Improv for bringing this comedy genius to Dallas. Heath Hyche is still touring
but it won't be long before he's permanently installed in a Las Vegas or Branson theater.
There should be lines for tickets to this show.

The Addison Improv WaitStaff
Host Club:
Improv - Dallas, TX
"The wait staff and management at the Addison Improv deserve to be mentioned here. Half are comedians and
the other half are real comedy fans. They are some of the most gracious individuals in the business.
The Improv wouldn't be the club it is without them. They are the best of the best,
under rated in every way. Next time you are at the Improv understand, the Improv team is what
makes your comedy night a success and makes a huge contribution to the comedian's performance success. Watch them
when you aren't watching the comedians watch the staff. In all honesty they are the second show constantly
performing without spotlights or mics. They are the reason you enjoyed the evening of shows. They deserve your respect and a generous tip.
They more than earn it." - Review by the Comedy Critic

Justin Worsham
Host Club:
Improv - Dallas, TX
Justin Worsham took the Addison Improv stage like he owned it, a comedy favorite with
some of the best relationship humor we've heard in years. If you are not married, Justin
is a gut busting educator. If you are married he's got a carnival mirror version for you.
Warming up the crowd as a feature for Heath Hyche, it was clear that Justin Worsham
is a headliner in his own right. The audiences love him. Just ask him how he sleeps at night.
Justin is easily one of the funniest comedians to take the stage at the Improv. Hope to
see him in Dallas again soon.

Eric Lokke
Host Club:
Improv - Dallas, TX
Eric Lokke returned home for a week at the Addison Improv, back from LA and his recent
two-episode appearance on the "Simple Live Goes to Camp" with Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie.
Hosting the week for Heath Hyche, Eric kicked the nights off with his signature edgy twist. Known for
a Don Rickles-like crowd work in Los Angeles, we saw lightening flashes occasionally as he resisted his
normal levels of crowd work in this series. It was great to see Eric bring out some of his big laugh
and big groan standup comedy to get the audience started. His knife sharpened, he never missed a chance to
to take a poignant jab at the stereotypical balloons of taste, race or the sexes. Long a favorite in Dallas,
now in LA, it's great to see Eric back at his home club. If you really want to laugh, make sure you get
tickets the next time he is in town." - Review by the Comedy Critic

Joby Saad

Improv - Dallas, TX
What a remarkable comedian, Joby Saad. WOW. If you love comedy you should know Joby, "The Village Idiot".
Fun, funny this is a comedian with skills known worldwide for his comedy genius. We got a glimpse
when he dropped in at the Addison Improv to do a guest spot. Joby Saad is a comedy legend, one of the best
in the business. In a knit cap and red t-shirt, "The Village Idiot" had the sellout crowd at the start
with some of the smartest dumb comedy I have ever seen. Joby should have a television show, America
needs him on TV. I hope we see Joby back in Dallas soon!

Jerry Rocha
Host Club:
Improv - Dallas, TX
"Jerry Rocha took the stage, in from LA, at the Addison Improv delivering some of his best material yet. Jerry is a comedy sledge hammer never coming up short on targets or laughs. You have to love this guy. He says what you never thought to think and he says it on stage. His signature "mic-stand-lean" and classic hand gestures are integral, seemingly as important as a George Burns cigar, ultimately a distinction that will make his career. Jerry delivers unstoppable laughs with every audience. Every fan of comedy has to see him. Great job, great night.

Gary Saenz

"Gary Saenz, all-pro comedy doing the Improv in Addison right last night with a performance that launched the night laughing. Gary has a reputation as a major league comedy writer. Having seen him at least 7 times I don't think I've seen the same joke twice. Funny and constantly moving Gary works the stage and the audience delivering headliner laughs from beginning to end. Ben Creed
Host Club:
Hyenas - Arlington, TX
"Ben Creed headlined a full house at Hyena's Arlington. First time to see Ben won't be the last. Ben Creed is all pro. A comedy
heavy weight with absolute star power. Ben seems to instinctively know where the funny is in every line. It might be be safer
to give him a horn in traffic than let him use his tongue and wit. Heaven help the company that give Ben a credit card. I'd like to say, we share the same credit philosophy. But he is knock down, breath arrestingly funny when explaining his sensible. Ben's
logic taken literally makes some of the funniest comedy I've heard in years. But the heart of Ben Creed comedy is his ability
to signal the punchline with a signature power growl much like comedy with a bass. You can't miss the beat. True genius.
Ben's material is at the top of the industry some of the best being delivered. If you love comedy. You will love Ben. More important
you are going to laugh all the way home and tell the office about being "legally drunk". Don't miss Ben Creed. But remember,
get tickets early... he sells out.

Gary Hood
Host Club:
Hyenas - Arlington, TX
"Gary Hood took the stage at Hyena's Arlington Saturday night with an impressive barrage of completely fresh comedy.
With every line he delivered nothing less than the comedy quality that you expect from a legend. Gary was impressive.
Not the material of an opening host but a headliner delivering a short set, setting the mark high for everyone that follows.
His presence seems to be the determining factor motivating the best from already great comedians that follow
every show in which he participates. Hyena's - Arlington is meeting every definition of an "A" room with some of the best
comedy in the Metroplex if not the nation. Gary is doing some of the best comedy of his life as MC and Host. If you
haven't been out to see this master of comedy, don't wait to find out why they call him the "Godfather of Comedy".

Dave Ashley
Host Club:
Hyenas - Arlington, TX
"Dave Ashley took the feature spot Saturday in a particularly hot, packed Hyena's Arlington show. Dave is fun, real fun. Originally
from Memphis Dave is a wealth of helpful advice and tips. Some of the funniest material I have ever heard. You have to
wonder where he gets it. Pawn shops with benefits, paper routes, finger tip massages, and an endless number of suggested
labels for the use of three fingers that had the audience temporarily abstaining in fear of spraying would be swallows
into the air. Ahhhh he's funny. Dave Ashley was worth the ticket, clearly a headliner subing for a feature, he was a major factor in the power of this
show. Hope to see Dave Ashley back in Arlington soon.

Karen Crowell
Host Club:
Canucks - Lewisville, TX
March 15, 2007 - Lewisville TX - It was Canucks in Lewisville and a packed comedy house where we caught Karen Crowell hosting a comedy night and some interesting Dallas comedians. Karen kicked off the night with a strong host set. A veteran comedian, Karen has a repertoire and a range that really put the pressure on the following acts. Clearly not impressed by dating decoration. But it was her cosmetics job that showed the prankster. She shot some hard laughs out starting with her reference to pizza and damaging the Dominos brand with a subliminal implant that I may never shake. She had some great lines regarding her friends opinions about her ex-girlfriend. Karen is always delivering fresh material that will have you in stitches. Buying SMU, George Bush's library and her Dad driving for work. Classic. You have to catch Karen one of Dallas' a great standups.

Alfred the Alley Cat
Host Club:
Canucks - Lewisville, TX
March 15, 2007 - Lewisville TX - Canucks in Lewisville was the stage and house where we caught Alfred the Alley Cat circling a small stage with some high energy comedy. Originally from Great Britain, Alfred is still adjusting to the expense of American "Freedom". Clearly a topic influenced by the American "Work Ethic". Alfred is a different breed of cat. Funny. Not the kind you normally picture in pink and maybe not the best choice based on his story.
Alfred was non-stop fast moving standup with some traditional British style impression work. He better stick to
comedy, it doesn't sound like his NASA career is going anywhere. Great set very funny. Catch Alfred being funny... you'll laugh.

Sam Kim
Host Club:
Canucks - Lewisville, TX
March 15, 2007 - Lewisville TX - Sam Kim "The Asian Comic in Dallas"... well maybe not the only one but maybe one of the funniest.
Sam is a funny guy, you are going to like him. A mix of story and one line zingers, Sam stands with his feet glued to the floor an animated bobble-body in constant motion. Sam delivers a casual comedy and is a natural comedian. He knows the secret to pineapple and now we do to. Sam took us through the cultural looking glass with a clever series of comedy twists resulting in serious laughs. You will want to see Sam. Great work.

Gary Hood Benefit Roast
Host Club:
Hyenas - Arlington, TX
November 1, 2006 - Arlington TX -
Some really nice things happen in comedy. It was Hyena's in Arlington Texas, fast
becoming one of the hottest comedy clubs in Texas. Graciously hosted, Jim and his staff
had their hands full during this well attended Benefit Roast. It was
a Benefit Roast for comedy legend Gary Hood. The list of roasters and attendees were
a testimony to the career and influence Gary Hood has had on comedians
and the comedy industry nationwide. This evening every comic gave it their best.
The night was hosted by Dan Marryman, a great choice, for his knowledge and
friendship with Gary. Dan is
clearly a master of the road that knows comedy and delivers funny with every line.
Dan did a great job wrangling as some of Texas' best comedians as they took the stage
for a night of original performances to roast the "Godfather of Comedy". As with most
"roasts", the roasters took some of the heat but it was definately a Gary Hood night.
We saw most of the talented Roasters deliver some of the funniest material on a comedy
stage in years. Chris Dodgen, clearly stood out as one of the best in a talented
group of writers, culminating in a heart felt toast to Gary. Dustin Ybarra showed
why he's a star rising delivering laughs and fielding quite a few shots from the rest.
Raj Sharma offered a polished and very creative roast, a real comedic tribute to a comedy
Guru. Richard Estrada was actually the first up, setting the bar high with a great roast
and one of the stronger deliveries in the team. Lee Huber was another audience favorite
with some solid material keeping the audience well entertained. What can you say about
the comical ramblings of the highly disconnected Bill West? His stream of unconsciousness
roast was an adventure. He doesn't get violent, right? Mark Agee was
absent but not one to be missed, he sent in his door blasting roast on paper, read by
Chris Dodgen, clearly Mark didn't have to be present to deliver some of the best comedy
of the night. Angela Ice and Shelly Alexis proved they had heart. They took some of the
toughest shots of the night making it a funnier night and easier for the rest. They truly
must care for Gary. All in all, it was a showcase of great comedy and great comedians
clearly a resounding tribute to their mentor, their friend and a national treasure, the
"Godfather of Comedy", Gary Hood.
Please contact
Hyenas Comedy Night Club in Arlington if you would like to assist
with Gary Hood's medical expenses. Insurance is an unaffordable necessity for some
of our greatest stand-up comedians.
"The Sunday night Hyena's house was sold out twice in the same night by the "Commixx", a team of 18-19
Dallas/Ft Worth area stand-up comedians with individual reputations built on years of heart stopping
laughs. Together they are a comedy force, able to pack any house and deliver some of the hottest comedy
to scorch the face of the earth. If you have not seen this team in action, you have not seen comedy in
DFW. The "Commixx" are the "Who's Who" of DFW urban comedy. These guys need a television show NOW!!!!

DaMone Jones
Host Club:
Hyenas - Arlington, TX
"It was Da'Mone Jones hosting a night of Commixx comedy at Hyena's. It's been a while since we've seen
Da'Mone take the stage. Mostly new material and the house was rock'n as Da'Mone started talk'n. It was high
energy social commentary with rapid fire laugh generating brain twisting lines. Da'Mone is 20 years of comedy
preparation exploding on the stage. This is a powerful comedian. See him!

Arlington . A little bit reggae and a lot funny Gutter like "Talk'n Real Life" and Texas drivers were the first
laugh on his mind for the night but not the last. Gutter had plenty to say about "special" kids and "special"
church. This Texas newcomer has comedy. Check him out on area comedy stages." - Review by the Comedy Critic

kicks it off strong. It was some of the best comedy we've seen. She has a unique approach on familiar
topics. Just when you thought you'd heard it she twisted it taking a completely different comedy path.
Kids, school, divorce, house cleaning, checks and diets... It was all different and very funny. You a

out, proving a depth of funny comedy that America's top headliners rarely match. Joe is all class and clearly a

"Marvin Michaels closed out the second sellout Commixx show at Hyena's in Arlington. Marvin is the master of "Broke-down

Marvin is a master of Stand-up Improv. Contemporaneous comedic repartee, on anything from dangling ceiling tiles to his
1988 Volvo DL. This comic explained the importance of carrying change in LA if you want to avoid advice from the street.
Looks like Subway Sandwiches has a new spokesman if they can take the comedy. It's always something new and funny with

command of the stage, confident and in control. Every now and then
there is a joke, a performance that sticks in your head even after 400 other comedians. He's got it. Ernesto has a
closer that drives audiences crazy. But even without the closer, this is a comedian that's going places. The time will

Jerry Rocha. Un-nerved by an early call to the stage, Laura made the best of it. Having seen Laura many times... it's

Eric Lokke
Host Club:
IMPROV - Addison, TX
"We caught Eric Lokke, in from LA, doing a hot guest spot at the Addison Improv. It was Eric's quick wit and
lightening tongue taking a big swinging slap at stereotypes for air gasping laughs. All new material in a much
too short set. Forget "PC". Eric takes a verbal baseball bat to stereotypical sensitivity. One of the hottest
sets of the hot night. Even his off the cuff shot at a "cellphone-talking" audience member was a rapid-fire burst
of thoroughly original stereotypical oneline assaults that had the audience in stitches. Eric delivers a perfected
comedy with sustainable substance that is cleverly crafted for gut grabbing, brain twisting laughter. LA has
discovered him, makes you wonder how long it will take Dallas to figure it out. " - Review by the Comedy Critic

stunned into absolute submission. It was a jaw dropping, paint blistering performace the likes of which
comedy rarely sees. Jerry shatters social grace, good taste and kills doing it. Move over and make space for the
talent of another comedy legend. I am dead serious when I say, "The audience was deprived of oxygen between shocked
gasps and uncontrollable laughter." Jerry is headshaking amazing and raw." - Review by the Comedy Critic

front of, after and in to so many otherwise well written jokes. Using any other word would still have gone beyond
redundent. Cristela was a hit with her adopted home town crowd this trip back from LA. Every time she comes back she

"It was Hyenas in Arlington this time and Joey Medina. The legendary Latin stand-up comedian performed to a series of
sold-out audiences at Hyenas proving Dallas/Fort Worth love Joey and Joey delivered an all-pro polished show... He is
comedy confidence delivering a smooth style comedy that generated big laughs from start to finish. Solidly funny with
a theatrical flourish that showed experience and taste. Joey's take on relationships kicked it all off and then there
were those classic, chair bending comedy blasters... his use of the word "Tortilla" in airports... and his dolphin
imitation.... sitting in the Gay bar... ohhhhh yaaaa... Joey's in town. A great night for comedy, Hyenas brought in

comedy blast at the trailer park contingent, most likely absent a venue like Carsons Live. It was on to Arkansas for more

dysfunctional functionalisms in the air or by car it was all funny. We shared a "red carpet moment" when he explained he
was wearing "Poverty". The audience loved it as he reinvented the vocals to a couple of popular tunes giving a whole new

up, when you hear him live. But Mario is golden when he starts in on his cynical quips, I could listen all night long and he
could probably deliver. He's perfected a comedy specialty. He even has a book, yes I said book, "(a cynic's guide to) a rich
and full life". What kind of comic does a little black (or navy blue) book instead of a CD or DVD? Mario. It's a funny read. It
beats most comedy CD's or DVD's for funny, and the delivery is classy.

In short, he killed and you probably missed it The audience was literally in pain from laughing so hard. Another comedy home run by the Improv. Kevin moved smoothly from equal opportunity ethnic insults to grandma dating with a Rain Man deadpan and a hint of Hanna-Barbara in the voice. It was clear that between spending years on the "smoking" team in high school and the vagaries of Catholic School anatomy lessons, Kevin was destine for the comedy stage. Have any doubts? The crowd loved the warm father-son relationship jokes that were just plain twisted. You have to hear Dustin one of Dallas' top comedians. Odds are, Dustin will be working the next show you see. He's everywhere, polishing his set.
You really want to see Dustin.

It would be hard to have reviewed this comedian based on the short set's available at Club Nairobi but Alfred gave me a DVD that proved he's got the comedy stuff. "Denzel Snipes showed his comedy at Club Nairobi. This is a funny comedian with skills. You have to like the natural comic ability of Denzel as he did a take-off on Los Codie's introduction, and then went into his problems, wet t-shirt cousins and imitations for a thoroughly enjoyable comedy set. His take on New Orleans was a classic. I'd like to see more of Denzel... Keep it coming.

Paul Varghese

"In a surprise visit to Jerami's the legendary Paul Varghese dropped in to try out
some funny new material and showed his quick witt working the crowd. Generally, Paul
has reputation for a strong, precisely timed comedy set developed over years of practice.
Not tonight. Tonight Paul showed the sparing footwork of a comedy middle weight, fast,
agile and deadly. Funny as always Paul went head-to-head with a font table mob, not
because he had to but because he found it entertaining. So did we. Yes, he was working
some new material too. An interesting insight to a comedian already

Damus showed he could keep the audience involved and laughing as he brought out more from the comedy cupboard with his
take on being ugly with good looking kids, advice from Dad and Terradactyl conversations. Not one to turn down

Jim Gaffigan
Host:
Comedy Central - Television
"We caught a preview, thanks to Comedy Central, of Jim Gaffigan's new special.
"Jim Gaffigan - Beyond The Pale" is more than just a publicity kick-off for his CD of the
same name - it is a vivid and hilarious exploration of the workings of a subtly
brilliant comedic mind. Gaffigan's absurdist leaps of reasoning are
accompanied by a truly unique and fascinating delivery, which
ranges from mock-pomposity and arrogant self-assurance to a mode of
expression that is a Gaffigan trademark - using a high-pitched, whining voice,
he comments on his own comedy as if he were a naive and critical third party.
The technique provides a highly amusing and totally clueless, commentary on the
main thread of his comedy. Jim Gaffigan is an extremely funny guy, and well worth
your time to watch. So tell your friends and catch this show together!

TK put on a show at the Addison Improv last night. If you've never seen TK, you should. This is a solidly funny comedian with headliner material so funny that few comedians could successfully follow. Strong features are rare. The only think separating a strong feature from a headliner is minutes and credits. TK has both so it was like getting a double show. He had the audience rolling with his high energy fast talking comedy. The audience almost came unglued when he told about selling his Etch-A-Sketch. But the best was still to come. Ignoring his own safety he launched into a series of racial stereotypical slams that had the audience falling out of their seats. Kier Spates
Host Club:
Player's Club - Dallas, TX
"The hottest comedy in Dallas last night was at the Player's Club where Old Skool Player &
New Skool Fool brought in comedy great Kier Spates for the most astounding, blowout comedy
performance I have ever witnessed. Kier started out with a delivery pace and style that
would have blistered the ears off most comedy audiences. He shifted to overdrive, upping
the speed and funny of his "skat-gat gun" comedy style to a jaw dropping spectical of
stand-up performance. High energy doesn't even begin to describe what we saw! Have
you ever laughed so hard you literally hurt, your sides hurt, your mouth hurt and you
couldn't catch your breath? It was a solid 45-50 minutes of explosive hall-of-fame
comedy. All I can say is, if you own a club book this comedian NOW! We saw sell-out
stadium talent! If you are a REAL comedy fan buy the ticket, pack the house and be
witness to the most explosive comedian performing ANYWHERE! KIER SPATES.

"Black Larry tore it up, literally, his t-shirt that is in a creative hot set at the Players Club in Dallas.
Black Larry is funny. No doubt about it he had the crowd laughing continuously in a strong set that really took off when he started in on his Nigerian car towing experience and moved to a little Sunday morning bootlegging. He was saving the best for last the audience came unglued when he did his parody of the Beverly Hillbilly's theme song.

Doug Benson

"It was good natured casual comedy at the Addison Improv with Doug Benson playing to a packed
house. Doug delivers a continuous stream of comedy that goes beyond the carefully cultivated
stoner persona he does so well in the Marijuana-logues. After brief conversations and a couple of shows it is clear Doug is one of the truly nice-guys of stand-up comedy. A naturally funny performer, Doug is fed by an artesian well of comic inspiration, it flows, bubbles and "rolls". Speaking of "rolling", he might. Speaking of "might" he "might" be stage "walking" and talking. But he did enjoy a Texas "walk" in the sun where he admitted to squashing a pony. He gave lessons in smooth transitions... see I learned. Speaking of learning, he's an excellent teacher. His Hover Dam routine was a worthy closer. If you get a chance to spend an hour with Doug Benson, take a friend and enjoy the evening.

Brain is a good natured comedy talent, perfect for stage. His comedy is hilarious.
His delivery exudes charisma. While we missed his new one man show, I'm betting it had to
be great. His stand-up performances, which I did see, were West Coast strong, influenced by

Tom Wilson
Host Club:
IMPROV - Addison, TX
"We caught Tom Wilson headlining at the Addison Improv where he pulled out all the stops in high energy show that started fast and just kept rolling. This multi-threat comedy wizard tapped into his Irish heritage for a refreshing evening of theatrically embellished recollections of life from a suburban American viewpoint where "hip hop" is what the Easter Bunny does. After a clever musical introduction that put his association with the popular "Back to the Future" franchise in a box. Tom's comic personality took over as he chased down his own identity as stand-up comedy super-star. Easily one of stand-up comedy's top talents, Tom delivers a mix of East Cost/West Coast middle America comedy that had the audience rolling. The lady at the next table literally couldn't catch her breath. Tom proved an Irish American, ex-marching band, tuba playing, father of four can be break-a-rib funny. His guitar accompanied comedy serenades were some of the most polished musical parities we've seen performed on any stage. Tom is an extreme comic talent and accomplished musician. There was a night with Todd Glass headlining at a Dallas club, when a front row audience member
had the nerve to scowl with crossed arms for the better part of a show. Todd after getting a great
response from the audience with this one exception ask the man if he was having a good time? It seemed
a fair question. But the audience member said he didn't think Todd was that funny... If the guy had
just had a bad day, it was going to get worse fast. Todd let loose with a blistering 10-minute
comedy roast that had the audience in absolute stitches all at the expense of Todd's new found
critic. Turns out the critical audience member was the father of the club's cook. Moral to the
story? Comics like cooks can bring heat to the stage. Don't site too close to the stage if
you can't at least bring a smile.

Jeff Dunham
Host Club:
IMPROV - Addison, TX
"It was Jeff Dunham at the Addison Improv where I was to witness a comedy team often
considered one of the most talented stand-up comedy teams to take the stage. The fact
that Jeff delivers 90% of his material with his mouth closed, in three or more dialects
isn't the miracle it might seem. Here's the secret, he has help. Well he did. Fact is,
Walter, his new agent Sweet Daddy Dee, Peanut and Jose had all the best lines as they
harassed the audience. Jeff just stood there keeping his right hand warm like a dummy
most of the night. I couldn't figure out why they put up with it. Most of them had some
talent! Ok, maybe I'm being a little hard on Jeff considering he had to do the heavy
lifting transferring the four to and from their "confining accommodations". If I had to
work with "that" crew I would probably keep them in boxes too. Any more oxygen or light
and they might become unstable. It's a good thing there was talent in the bunch. They
can keep Jeff fed, poor guy. Ok, most of you already know, Jeff Dunham is the funniest,
most talented, quick wit in comedy and he does it with a team of characters. Some might
call them puppets but in Jeff's world you often wonder who's in control. Walter has a
mind of his own. I have my doubts that "Sweet" Daddy Dee and Jeff share the same mind.
And Peanut is all personality. I think Jose was still suffering the indignity of airport
security. Yes, Jeff is the ventriloquist. To say he is the top ventriloquist of his
generation is an understatement. He is probably the best ever, including politicians.
Jeff delivers multidimensional comedy with more talent and wit that any other comedy
performer. His additions of, "Jose" and now "Sweet Daddy Dee" broaden his comic voice
and opportunity for more interactive social commentary, two moves that reflect the continual
exploration of the art by a master of his craft. It's all very funny. If you can get
tickets, treat yourself to a wonderfully entertaining evening with Jeff Dunham, a comedy
icon." - Comedy Review by The Comedy Critic

Tommy Drake
Host Club:
IMPROV - Addison, TX
"Tommy Drake took the stage at the Addison Improv after a 16-hr trip up from Houston
narrowly escaping Hurricane Rita he came out panther-like pacing possibly an after-effect
of being caged for 16-hrs. On the plus side the trip generated at least 10-minutes of
very funny "Escape from Houston" material. Clearly Tommy can write and perform. Tommy
is a man with skills valuable in marriage. He reads clues and Harry Potter seemingly
related in a Tommy Drake way. His secret to Thanksgiving gravy was age related but it
was his medical condition and napping that brought the house down. Can you imagine that?
With Tommy Drake we got polished delivery of domestic content. He's funnny, got strong
material and a welcome addition to any show. Catch Tommy the next time he's in town. You
are going to like this comedian." - Comedy Review by The Comedy Critic

What's so bad about heckling? It sidetracks the carefully scripted, timed delivery of
the stand-up's intended performance. Stand-up comedy is more like a practiced one man
play than improv. Audience interruptions simply steal time and material from the comic's
performance cheating the rest of the paying audience from seeing the intended show.

Ron White
Host Club:
IMPROV - Addison, TX
"Ron White dropped in on the Improv in Addison for a powerful evening of comedy 19-years to the day from his first
stand-up comedy appearance making a special night even more special. It was the faint whiff of cigar smoke
that more than words announced Ron was in the room. Somewhere in the dark watching the opening act, cigar and Scotch
in hand Ron waited. The audience roared, the tables literally vibrated as he took the stage like rolling thunder.
Easily one of the top 5 comedians on tour today, Ron White killed a packed house with some of the funniest comedy
in recent memory. It was signature Ron White, delivering comic wit in overflow doses as side splitting common sense
commentary reminiscent of no nonsense legends like Will Rodgers, and George Burns with a little Dean Martin rolled in
for good measure. Recently known for his successful association with the "Blue Collar Comedy" Tours/Movies, Ron delivers
a performance that is larger than any "Blue Collar" label. It is comedy timed in a cigar puff rhythm fueled by Scotch
the only way a real Texan takes it. Straight. Ron proved to be full of decidedly useful comic sense and valuable
insights. Just as the audience seemed to recover from each knock-you-over comic assault, the straight talking Ron,
let loose on another hilarious tale only briefly interupted by the contemplation of a well earned cigar puff. I have
rarely laughed so hard or enjoyed the pace of a comic so much. Here are just a few of the topics you missed: nipple rings... scooter
rides... 8 inches of chocolate.. farris wheels... booking agents... even Egypt... Oh it was funny. So funny.
Yes. Ron got a standing ovation, what else would you expect. Welcome back to Texas Ron. The Improv in Addison proved,
when it comes to comedy stars no club is a better host and no comic plays the Improv hotter than Ron White. If
you weren't there, you missed it. Don't ever make THAT mistake again." - Comedy Review by The Comedy Critic

"Dustin Ybarra was the next comic on the roster for a night of comedy at the West End Comedy Theatre's "Under Age Comedy Show".
It was clear Dustin had been writing, a lot. In a creative no holds barred comedy set, Dustin proved he is and will stay a major
comedy name. He opened fast and kept it going with strong, hard hitting comedy. For instance, Dustin located his feminine
side right off the bat, no problem. A child of Mexican and Anglo American parents, it was clear Dustin could find the funny with
compelling Tex/Mex moments from his childhood. A former medicine cabinet drug dealer, he shared sensitive observations regarding
blue body parts. All solid original comedy material any comedian would be proud of. And then Dustin did something that would
change the course of his comedy career. He shared a moment of comedy genius, carefully planned inspiration that was shockingly
creative. Comedy experiment with career implications? You just need to see it. I call it "Stand-in - Stand-up". One of those rare
comedy moments where you feel like something has changed forever, the envelope got stretched. Dustin seemed to moc the
censorship and hypocracy of political correctness. Stunning proof the art of stand-up comedy and satire can be
brilliantly dangerous at so many levels. Thanks Dustin, great job!" - Comedy Review by The Comedy Critic

Tony Ybarra

West End Comedy Theatre - Dallas, TX
"Tony Ybarra headlined the West End Comedy Theatre's "Under Age Comedy Show". One of Dallas' top comedy stars,
Tony explored new ground this night when he got more minutes to show what he could do. It was the first time we saw
what seems to be an emerging "real Tony", more relaxed delivery, more material, telling more intricately creative comedy
stories that give him license to find greater comic embellishment. Tony has perfected a stand-up format not often seen on
comedy stages. In a series of hilarious comedy vignettes, Tony charmed the audience with original comic stories that
were so colorfully creative he was able to transport your imagination to his world of short armed dinosaurs, spotted dalmatians,
ramp jumping midgets, security guard flashlights, contract law and fundraising with starving kids. Tony delivers everything
you love about the art of stand-up comedy. The new format makes Tony Ybarra a comedy attraction offering

Dave Little

Improv Comedy Club - Addison, TX
"It was Dallas' Dave Little in a one man show at the Addison Improv where he explored a variety of comic formats
including stand-up, monologue and musical satire. The master of self-consious, overconfident acceptance of lowered
expectations, in a one-man show of comic daring, Dave creatively delivers comedy with the pacing of a student
driver at the controls of a stick shift for the first time. In other words, perfect timing. He takes the audience
on a hair raising exploration of what it is to be in the comedy passenger seat with Dave Little in control of the pedal.
Clealy planned, continuously sidetracked at irrestable improvisational moments of opportunity. Dave did many
of his popular musical comedy compositions including "Soccer Moms", "I've Got the Schizophrenic Blues" and a new,
I think, musical comedy masterpiece about the zoo. Dave's monologues, complete with background music, took a satirical
punch at melodramatic trama readings of the seriously "artistic". Dave is a comedy breath of fresh air. Pure genius
should be rewarded. Here's hoping Dave keeps expanding his three format comedy. Question is, "Can Dave rap?, now that's

No wonder he played to a week of continuous sell-outs. What, was I the last to really know? The audience knew. Ralphie May, is the reigning king of stand-up comedy. Everything Ralphie did was funny. Every word, every classic look, every expression for well over an hour, maybe two. I wish I would have put a clock on it. My mouth hurts just thinking about the show. Yes, there have been other greats other nights but Ralphie May is special, the kind of comedian that becomes a cultural icon, crossing generations. This comedian understands the importance of his fans like no other comedian I have ever seen. He makes a packed house every show, even Sunday, feel welcome. He loves his fans. Not like a rock star but more like a country western star, greeting and meeting. For the price of admission every fan and soon to be fan got treated to the comedy performance of a life-time and a hand shake or hug. Ralphie's comedy pushed the envelope, twisting and jerking "politically incorrect" stereotypes like a taffy maker at a carnival. He is creative. As Ralpie May put it, he's "the comic that gives you what you need". He has a way of correcting the politically sensitive with doses of comic electro-shock. Yes, I saw "Last Comic Standing", "Celebrity Fit Club" and Ralphie May is more, so much more. Watch for Ralphie May and reserve your tickets early, a year in advance just might do it, maybe.

Lahna Turner
Host Club:
Improv Comedy Club - Addison, TX
"Lahna Turner took the stage at the Addison Improv playing to a packed house. She delivered high energy, surprise comedy that played like a short pop fly lost in the infield lights, just before you take a thump to the forehead. Lahna is hilarious. No small laughs, the audience roared as she worked the mic and I do mean worked it. She's fun, a complex comedy blend of multi-level east coast, west coast frisbee and "tell-it-like-it-is" Texas edge. Every line always a funny contrast to her charmingly seductive delivery. In a second stage incarnation Lahna, the comedy folk singer, takes guitar to mic with the musical satire of a seriously twisted sister but a real musical talent. Actually some of the best musical comedy I've ever heard. I want the CD.... please. If you get a chance to see Lahna get the tickets and bring some friends, they'll love you for it.

"It was Billy Wayne Davis hosting the Ralphie May show at the Addison Improv. Billy Wayne's got some edge and some material. College was apparently the start of a comedy career if nothing else for Billy Wayne. You had to admire the convenience of putting a bottle opener on your key chain until Billy Wayne pointed out the draw backs. He has a "suck-you-in" comedy. His homo-phobe material is killer. Hope to see more of Billy Wayne Davis, soon.

Frank Caliendo
Host Club:
Improv Comedy Club - Addison, TX
"It was a Frank Caliendo night at the Improv in Addison. Famous for his imitations and
MAD TV, Frank's stand-up centered on dizzyingly quick witted comedy renditions of President
George W. Bush ...oops, oxymoron in that somewhere. So let's say it was a quick witted,
half-wit caricature of George Bush or was it a full wit of a half-wit with no wit John
Madden commentary on everything circular or Brett Favre. Yes, "round" does come to mind. Roll in Jay Leno,
Adam Sandler, Scooby Doo, Chris Rock, Robin Williams, Al Pacino, Terry Bradshw, Chirs Farley
and Pauly Shore and you've got less than you started with when I started describing this
spectacle because you should of been there. I should have been there 4 to 5 times more
this week and I still would have missed something in the double speaking, ventriloquist like
stream of consciousness explosion, conjuring up every voice short of Elmer Fudd (and he
was so close I expected it) that is a Frank Caliendo show. Frank delivers "Farari grade"
comedy in a verbal demolition derby format. Got to see to believe it. Another great night at
the Improv. Thanks Frank.

"This time we caught Paul Varghese hosting with a feature set at the Addison Improv for Frank Caliendo. Paul stepped it up at
least two notches with some great new material. Not that Paul hasn't always been funny but the additions to his set really
worked. It took a while to figure out what Paul had changed that made such a big difference. More casual, more confidence
and seemingly more relaxed timing. It was like Paul took all the pressure off. So simple but a world of difference separating this
performance from all his others. It was easier to relax with Paul this time out and that really worked. He gave us time to enjoy
the humor. Very cool, Paul. Very funny.

It's not his fault, he's just funny. From hugging skinny people to "big guy" directions, all
hilarious. His drinking material is dangerous to anyone caught off-guard with a mouth
full of food or sipping a drink. Watch for blow-hole reactions by audience members like

"Richard Lewis, comedy impresario, took the stage at the Improv in Addison.
Richard played comedy like a scat jazz ensemble working through an endlessly
mutating theme at 2am in a dimly lit, smoke filled room. The audience, critically
appreciative with jaws locked open in awe. Not common stand-up at the Improv this
night. Always uncommonly funny, Richard's comedy comes delivered in multiple
streams, punch-lines bounce and land reflected like sound on brick walls and
cement floors, the one line answers to multiple questions hurled into the
thick air for simultaneous consideration. Dallas' top comedians watched him
from the cheap seats in the back as he paced the stage draped in solid black,
fiddling with this and that, distractive complexities added to the comic
theme. Richard Lewis, master of comedy blues, thanks for showing us the real
art of stand-up." - Comedy Review by The Comedy Critic

"One of the best nights in comedy when we caught the high energy, Heath Hyche at the Improv in
Addison. My jaw hurt we laughed so hard.
He is hilarious. Heath is a master of theatrical stand-up comedy, maybe the greatest living today.
His classic routines, quick change costumes and extreme caricatures remind you of comedy
great, Red Skelton. I don't make the comparison lightly. Incredible faces, hats, character props,
concepts but golden comedy. Heath's comedy is assured, guaranteed, indemnified and certified
funny. Thank goodness you don't have to pay $250 a ticket but if you did, this is the comedy
ticket I would buy. If you missed the show, you missed the show of the year. The Improv really
knows how to pick talent. I truly wish you could have seen it. Heath may be one of the top 4
comedians on tour today. Every Hyche show should always be a sell-out the minute it's announced.
Heath is so uniquely, stomp your feet, spew your drink, hold your teeth-in funny, you will

It was the good natured, comedy prankster's night to shine, loaded with some fresh material.
Dave really knows how to make an audience laugh. He was the perfect feature for Hyche. Smart
pick Improv. Dave's just funny. Poor guy in the audience decided to head for the Jon just as
Dave was about to start his second and last comedy ballad, wrong move. Dave moved the guy's
chair and drink to the stage. When the guy came back, no chair, no drink... hilarious!!!
That's why you don't watch your comedy on TV and you don't sit on the front row if you

Jim Short

"We caught Jim Short headlining at the Addison Improv where he was once
again crowned by popular opinion the "Funniest Person in Dallas" during this all
too brief stay. While an early career achievement, Jim delivered comedy that showed,
once again, the wisdom of the original 1990's accolade. Jim Short may indeed be the
funniest comedian on at least three continents let alone the comedy meca, Dallas.
At 36 this Auzzie to Texas transplant kept the audience mesmerized with a
dizzying barrage of floor pacing, mic-melting, side-splitting
commentary and sarcastic impressions. Short was the name, however
NOT an accurate indicator of Jim's comic creativity or the audiences
engagement. Jim Short, the "Master of Proper Comedy" is "bloody
funny", no translation necessary. He spoke nearly enough, the Queen's
English, as he explored the rumor of a "Mexican Air Force",
imitated Mic Jagger, Keith Richards, Ozzie Osborne, and
The Crocodile Hunter. His imitations of a dangerous cobra
and big eared BBC news anchor, left you reasonably sure you had just
encountered cartoon-like Jim Short fabrications, extreme
caricatures of a deeply funny comic reality. Next time Jim's
in town I want to see every show, not just the last show."

A major league comedian with surprisingly sarcastic stingers that can lay an audience
out. He led off with a seemingly agreeable observation about Texas being the second
hottest place on earth... with the hottest being... well you have to hear this one for

retirement, golfing, communities among other trials of patience.
How do you describe Jason's style? You don't. You pay for a
ticket to see him. Another masterful performance by Jason James.
Jason James has all the right stuff to become a comedy legend.

"The Backdoor Comedy Club delivered a solid night of laughs thanks in no small part
to Jason James who showed us the kind of talent that won't get much feature work.
Great comedians would have a hard time following this act. His cock-eyed glasses
were the first clue. This on-the-edge comedian blasted the stage with a series of
hilarious over-the-top airport security routines that literally dented a mic.
Jason James delivered nothing short of a star quality performance. A stand-out
among the 15 talented performers that took the stage. Someone needs to pay this
comedian to stay in the spotlight." - Comedy Review by The Comedy Critic

Joey Diaz
Host Club:
IMPROV - Addison, TX
"It was another national headliner for the Improv as west coast Joey Diaz, master of
east coast stand-up, old-school style, brought the house down at the Addison Improv.
You gotta know what you got and Joey knows a lot. It was all personality and punchlines
with Joey "the eyes" Diaz, as he made comic faces behind the mic. Joey fires off the kind
of adult comedy that would singe the hair off your back. You have to admire Joey Diaz
for classic stand-up comedy skills and funny material. But you haven't lived until you've
seen Uncle Joe bust a move. He can dance... If you don't like blue, throw back a shot
of something strong and relax you'll probably laugh right through it or stay home and
leave an extra seat for a fan." - Comedy Review by The Comedy Critic

Mark Britten - The Chinaman
Host Club:
Hyena's Comedy Club - Arlington
"Are you ready to rock? It was a Mark Britten aka "The Chinaman" comedy concert at Hyenas in
Arlington. Mark is combination impressionist and comedian with extreme vocal skills. Pick your
rock artist and "The Chinaman" delivers. One of the top impressionist/comedians in the
business, "The Chinaman" is comedy Ninja, Master of the Mic. You pick the rock star or
group... Ozzie, Mic, AC/DC, Hung (of SheeBang fame), Counting Crows, Matchbox 20, even Garth
Brooks and they will probably take the stage thanks to Mark. Separate the impressions from
the stand-up and Mark's stand-up comedy was an impressive display of comic range that kept
the audience locked in their seats for fear they might miss a line. It was a crazy night as
Kid Wok and his abacus Fu Man Chu showed off his hair cut before touring Sesame Street.
Mark even brought a few movie stars to the show including William Shatner, Arnold
Schwarzenegger, and Tom Brokaw to mention a few. Mark is funny in a "jaw will hurt from
laughing" kind of way. This is a the comedian you have to see, bring lots of friends. See our

Tony Ybarra
Host Club:
Hyena's Comedy Club - Arlington
"The second time we caught Tony Ybarra, he was hosting a Chinaman show at Hyena's in
Arlington with some very, very funny comedy all his own. Tony delivers strong,
strangely twisted, comedy. He's has been working. Great comedy for big laughs.
The audience just about came unglued when he explained about 'the driving blind' after
a lead-in with his solution to road rage using 'midgets'. This is a real comedy talent
with charisma, Tony's a comedy natural. He may be a Host for now and any club would be lucky
to have him, but with a little more material, he will be a very strong feature (hard for all
but the best headliners to follow). So Tony, you better start writing, you need a solid
60-minutes fast cause you face a short Feature career eclipsed by a long career
as headliner. Keep it coming." - Comedy Review by The Comedy Critic

Doug Miller

Hyena's Comedy Club - Arlington
"Doug Miller was back home, in from Austin for a night of comedy at the world famous Hyena's Comedy Club in
Arlington. Doug is apparently responsible for a fair amount of the bathroom wisdom shared at the point of a
Sharpie. Sounds like Doug get's around. This is another comic with boundary issues. You can see comic
traits shaped by his Plano connection, an experience shared by 4-5 comic
compatriots climbing the charts today. What was it about Plano in the 90's... it produced some comics.
We heard about "Sober Doug" and "Drunk Doug" in some funny dark-yup comedy, filled with drugs, pawn shops
and air guitars. You've gotta love Doug's take on bicycle safety. I just don't know if I can take
sewing supplies as seriously as he does. Keep writing the good stuff Doug...

From the unexpected to the expected Anthony had the audience laughing for a great

"We were in for a fortunate surprise when we caught Kristin Linder at the IMPROV in Addison
doing a brief Dallas guest spot as she passed through town. This is a funny lady and classy
comedian with strong material. Kristin started out with a family trip to Hooters, a
perfect match for this crowd. I'm guessing the Jim Norton audience was probably not
typically Kristin's primary fan base. But that didn't matter. As we found out, Kristin
was just getting started. Her ATM Doctor and hamster influenced child discipline had the
audience in stitches. Kristan can deliver. I am sure we will be hearing more about
Kristin Linder out of Houston. I really look forward to seeing more of Kristin's comedy
set as a headliner or feature in the future." - Comedy Review by The Comedy Critic

"It was another great night for Shawn Halpin at the Addison Improv. Shawn got some solid
stage time as host and was able to deliver more material than we've seen him do before.
In many ways it was like seeing a whole new comedian. Shawn came alive as he served up
a broader range of material mixed with some new in a less regulated blue comedy night
with Jim Norton. Shawn proved that he can take an audience to the line, cross it and
back again." - Comedy Review by The Comedy Critic
Host Club:
Addison Improv - Dallas
"We caught Shawn Halpin hosting the Improv in Addison for headliner Doug Stanhope. This time
we saw a lot more of Shawn's comedy set. It was easier to see why this ex-Marine is so popular.
His questionable childhood experience with baseball, Big Brothers and Michael Jackson got the
show off to a fast start followed by his froggy voiced casino gamblers. But his new ghotee
defense is a killer. Keep'em coming!" - Comedy Review by ComedyCritic.com
Host Club:
Addison Point - Addison
"Recently seen at the Point in Addison, Shawn Halpin had a slam
dunk, comedy performance in spite of a sloppy, not-to-sneaky,
ambush by front table drunks. This comedian stuck to his guns
and delivered 100%. Chalk one up for a real comedy professional.
Shawn's Bagdad Statue Replacement Initiative kicked off the show
followed by the rapid release of comedy that set the audience
up for more power-lines like the one referencing the release of
Latino students from schools. Then Shawn connected with some of
the best material of the night as he described the tendencies of
specially challenged grocery store bag boys. Shawn is a natural
comedian that audiences love. Keep an eye out for more of Shawn

Dave Little
Host Club:
IMPROV - Addison, TX
"Dave Little was at the Addison Improv where he took on the Jim Norton audience.
Dave is a comedian like no other. He calls it "self-deprecating humor". I call it
being one of the funniest comedians on any stage. Dave is all about timing, in fact
Dave is a "Master" of Stand-up Comedy timing. Watching Dave at work you find
yourself holding your breath for some unexplainable reason as he plunges from
joke to joke like a porpusing dolphin. He makes the stage a stand-up adventure
where his low-key style sets the audience up for a quick witted brain twist. His
guitar comedy, a big part of Dave Little brand comedy, was eclipsed by the creative
genius of his stand-up this outing. Always different, always very funny.... Dave
was worth the ticket on his own. Dave one of the comedians I want to see any

Jim Norton
Host Club:
IMPROV - Addison, TX
"We found Jim Norton headlining at the Addison Improv where he owned his shocked
audience from start to finish. Norton earned verbal artist credentials with lightening
strokes of sidesplitting comedy. You might be lulled by his consistency to
underestimate his ability to shock after the first 30 minutes of outrageously funny
material and pop-eyed expressions. Don't assume a thing. He's just coasting at a
mind numbing supersonic comic pace. After being challenged by an arm-crossed
third-row Jim Norton skeptic, apparently harboring deep seated contempt for Jim's
brand of humor, Jim Norton dug deep to find the single most shockingly funny
one-liner in the history of comedy. I can't tell. I just can't give it away.
If you were there you heard it. The earth wabbled and thunder clapped as Jim stopped
the earth's rotation for a split second. Rumor has it the earthquake just east of LA
last night was caused by a one-liner delivered in Dallas by a slightly warped comedian
named Jim Norton. Will he do it again? I'd pay the ticket to find out.... Baby." -

Bryce Richardson
Host Club:
West End Comedy Theatre - Dallas, TX
"Let's get this "straight", Bryce Richardson is not "Gay" as
he pronounced before a packed house at the West End Comedy
Theater. That probably doesn't matter to most of us, but it was
a funny intro. Bryce didn't really seem "Gay" but since he
brought it up, I will try to emphasize that he was extremely
funny in a reassuring hetero, not to say metrohetero, way.
Ok enough of the funny gender based repartee. Fact is Bryce
is just very funny and he clearly knows what's funny.
I'd pay to see him and I don't often say that. Bryce delivers
funny ideas with a twisted twinkle of an eye and an "I ate the
pet Canary" grin that proves it ain't no fluke. You have to
watch out, this comic can blind-side you with a punchline
like a south-paw. His all Texas rant about a visit to Boston and
his Viagra use by the elderly being prime examples.
There is a comforting genius in his comedy and a charm in
his delivery. I definitely want to see more of Bryce Richardson.
If you haven't seen Bryce, look for him, ask for him.

Seth Cowles
Host Club:
West End Comedy Theatre - Dallas, TX
"We were at the West End Comedy Theatre in downtown Dallas where we caught
a great comedy set by Seth Cowles. Seth brought a fresh breath of Boston
to the Texas stage with an
accent-free dose of Jewish/Catholic confusion. How could it be anything
less than funny as he further explained how his Japanese connection
led to a Basketball encounter. Seth was all pro delivering a very funny
up-beat version of the traditional East Coast "Jewish Uncle" comedy style.
You may have to live in Texas to fully appreciate the spot-on explanation
for the lost Boston "R's"... Seth found them, which may explain why both
populations need "hooked on Phonics". His "Def Kid" rant
and handicapped girl friend showed us his struggle with a depth of
compassion, balanced against pursuit of a great punchline. Comedy won.
Go for it Seth!

Jenn Hoff

"We caught Jenn Hoff at the blockbuster West End Comedy Theatre
Stand-up Showcase in Dallas where she rocked the house with a
strong comedy set. Jenn will surprise you and I don't quiet know why
it's a surprise. The surprise is very much a part of what makes Jenn
so funny. She delivers high energy comedy with big
laugh jokes. After her two opening jokes, it was clear we had a case
of comedy dynamite on our hands when she started blasting with
her Hershey bar joke and Sex/Driver's Ed connection.
Later we found out this comic has a number of life-disorienting
twists that probably explain, if only partially, her reaction to
certain bumper stickers in traffic. Jenn has it all. Polished
delivery and great comedy material. The packed house loved her.
Hope we get to see much more of Jenn.

Corey Sutton

"We caught Corey at the West End Comedy Theatre where Rob Poynor and
Doug Ewart put on one of the most entertaining nights of comedy we
have ever witnessed. With over 150 fans in
their packed house, Corey Sutton was the forth of 5 impressive comedy
sets. The highest one word praise I can offer this comic genius is to
label him "hilarious". At 18, Corey isn't new to comedy, we hear he's
put the years in and it barely shows, thank goodness. Too much polish
would kill this effect. I really think Corey is destined to become one
of stand-up comedy's royalty. He was just that funny. Joke after joke.
Even his ad hoc transitions and ad-lbs were inspired. It was his casual
approach to the mechanics of stand-up as much as his jokes that locked
the audience in. Writing on his hand was a priceless part of the set,
so good that he probably should have words tattooed on his palms to
avoid a life-shortening by ink poisoning. Corey has a style
all his own, so compelling and appealing, you tend to forget every
other comedian you've ever seen. This comedian is on track to
become a stand-up comedy super power. He loves his audience and they
love him back. Keep it coming Corey, you were born for the art of

Flip Orley
Host Club:
Improv - Addison, TX
"It was Flip Orley at the IMPROV in Addison where he kicked the night off with mic bending stand-up. You might think a great hypnotist would be satisfied with a good trance or two, easy to let his subjects do the "real" comedy. NOT THIS PRO. Flip delivered some of the hottest stand-up on any stage. Fresh original material that made you wonder if he even needed a cut glass ball. The audience was hooked. His "pre-show" warm-up delivered better than most stand-ups bring to the stage in a lifetime. One entertainer, two world class comedy shows in one night. Flip's rapid fire comedic banter morphed into serious play as he took command turning the stage into a hypnotic playground where table conversation mixed with side-shooting eye glances meant missing the profoundly funny. With subjects seated on stage, the room was suggestively transformed by the imagination of the "prankster-puppeteer" to a magical place where names were blocked and watches talked, arms were locked and mouths spilled random thoughts as they escaped mental mind traps. It was an awe inspiring wonder. Dallas saw entertainment royalty, Flip Orley master of suggestion, hypnotic or comic, in an astounding performance. Once again the Addison IMPROV delivered the best of the best for a memorable night of comedy. Get tickets for every show when Flip is in town... if you don't you really will miss something.

Juan Villareal
Host Club:
Players Club - Dallas
"If you weren't at the Players Club you missed the best comedy
in Dallas this Saturday night when Juan Villareal blasted the
stage with an all star performance. The only way to describe
Juan's comedy is ultra high energy headliner with a Tex-Mex
twist that's 'real'. What a night! Laugh after laugh
kept the audience bent one way or the other. He painted lightning
fast verbal pictures so crystal clear you were laughing before
he delivered the main joke as he explained the
differences between 'Wetbacks' and 'Mexicans'. Something about
socks and prom dresses... Then his midget (ok little people)
and cellphone routine took out the front row. It was all pro
but even that wasn't his best stuff... Oxygen was in short
supply when Juan explained what it meant to be poor,
not broke but 'really poor'. Juan delivered a recordbook writing,
classic, Comedy Hall of Fame entry when he explained the relation
between being poor and the light company's cut-off policy regarding
candles. You otta pay for the ticket just to hear that one alone,
promise. It's that good! Thanks to comedian/promoter Los Codie,
Dallas had a Juan Villareal comedy night to remember as Juan
scamppered across the stage chasing Flying Texas Cockroaches
and his house guest on $25 power bars... Time to put the
The Players Club on the map as a great comedy venue! It was the
perfect host for a packed house and a great place to get a
'close to the comic' seat, dinner and a drink, easily a match
for any Dallas area comedy venue. Plan on a great comedy

TK Kirkland
Host Club:
Comedy Thursdays - Caribbean Grill - Dallas, TX
"TK Kirkland took a pass at the Caribbean Grill in Dallas proving to be a man of his word. The TK crowd had been anticipating for weeks. It was "T to the K" all the way when he delivered a measured dose of signature TK tough love. This comedian tells it like it is. Sometimes it's twisted, sometimes it's instructional but always funny. TK means "keepin' it real" comedy. He started the evening offering instructional tips to the ladies regarding the mismanagement of resources. With a nod to Monica Lewinski, he moved on to what we'll call "respect for One Day Relationships". Not sure he got both sides of the isle to agree on that one but it was a seriously funny effort. Anyone can work a packed house but somewhere between prophet and fortune teller, he worked the comedy room that is fast earning a reputation for being one of the toughest, smartest comedy stages in the U.S., proving he's got the stuff. It was the one-on-one "T to the K", keepin it real, personal counselling and tips like a street-wise uncle from Compton, that proved his true comic genius. Only regret, he didn't stay longer, play longer. Maybe next time he's in Dallas and up for a comedy challenge. I'd like to see TK Kirkland head to head with Doug Stanhope in a mind-bending 3-hour reality check that would leave an audience completely re-programmed. Ok, I'm sick to have had that thought. Jake Johannsen
Host Club:
Improv - Addison, TX
"I saw Jake Johannsen for the first time at the Addison Improv where he worked a private show. The Improv management invited me. Jake is a gem, favorite of David Letterman and ranked among the top comedians in the country. It's easy to see why. He brings twisted observational comedy to a new level. Take a minute to consider what kind of mind can merge hunting, cows and hammers into a single "fall out of your chair" joke. Ok, he escaped from Iowa only to move to Santa Monica, California... All I can say is, it seems to have had a profound effect as he explored the world of political corrections "a la" LA. He continued his calm mid-west indignation with the comparison of smoking to cell phone use, skipping to brain fed mad cows... followed closely as he reported the attack by TV news on public sanity. Wait, he was just getting warmed up... We covered terrorists, TV ads, gay marriage, drugs and finding the right girl. Jake is one of the most twisted comedians you will ever see. No not twisted in a bad way. Twisted in a "you're gonna talk about him forever" way. I'm sitting here looking at my notes laughing all over again. This is a comedian that I personally recommend for anyone that loves real comedy. You WILL "get" him. Keep it coming Jake." - Comedy Review by The Comedy Critic

Tyler Craig
Host Club:
Comedy Thursdays at the Caribbean Grill - Dallas, TX
"We caught Tyler Craig headlining 'Comedy Thursdays', at the Caribbean Grill in Dallas. This
is a powerful, professional performer with a comedy style that's 100% original.
Get ready for some 'seriously' funny stand-up comedy. Tyler was jaw dropping
funny. He has it all, looks, polish, material and talent. His "story jokes" are
loaded with punch-line after line. Just when you think he's done with one of his
'not so carefully' numbered jokes... we got two or three number twelves (part of the joke), he
sums each joke up with a floor rolling 'and the moral to that story is...' that kills.
Tyler Craig delivered a set that made sure you couldn't label this comedian
anything less than a "top stand-up pro". When you think you know what Tyler is
all about, he shows you another talented side. You could seriously hurt yourself
laughing at his facial expressions. He's got a serious side that's seriously funny when he
starts talking about media persecution of major black entertainers and sports figures. If
you love comedy, you have to see Tyler any time he's in from Georgia. If the show's sold

of stand-up jokes. It's Todd's own brand of stand-up. Todd's got his own voice and the fans
love it. Todd's imitation of his father smoking is a signature image you'll never forget.
This is a comedian that hooks his fans. I watched them line the club both before and
after the show. Believe me, there's nothing like a Todd Glass on stage. You have to see
him. Get your tickets early if he's coming to town. Find out what comedy is supposed to be."

Spanky
Host Club:
Hyenas Comedy Club - Fort Worth TX
"Spanky is at least a laugh every few seconds. He has a delivery that moves
like a sledge hammer. He winds up and slams you with side splitting observations
that just keep coming. It's only common sense but it's so funny and there are so
many you can't pick just one joke. This is a ticket, the kind of show you're
glad you saw and you want to pay for the second show. Make sure to take a witness.
No one will believe it if you don't. I've got to see this comedian again,
and again and again. I just wish I had his CD for the car." - Comedy Review by

Doug Stanhope
Host Club:
Addison Improv - Dallas
"It was the Addison Improv this time and comedy original
Doug Stanhope. Although he claims to be bored at 38, an
hour with Doug is anything but boring. When this box bending,
out-thinker, takes the stage you better plan on re-evaluating
most of your life decisions in light of Stanhope logic. It's
like he caught the other bus and came back from a mirror
reality where double-speaking, politically correct mind games
were punishable by reality. You might not agree with the
wisdom of his ways but you can't deny that he makes a logical
hilarious case. While Doug probably wouldn't condone or even
read a comedy "review", real comedy fans that pass on a
Doug Stanhope performance are missing far more than an hour
of comedy. If you're easily offended by irreverent musings
take your judgmental attitude to a safer place. Doug
Stanhope doesn't coddle intellectual straight-jackets. I
think I get it, not so sure I can live it. Get a ticket.
" - Comedy Review by ComedyCritic.com
"Yet another night found us at the Addison Improv during
Doug Stanhope's run. I'm glad we got to see him again so
quickly. For the best comedians, seeing more just provides
a little more insight. With Stanhope I guess no two shows
are ever the same. I had the feeling that Doug could let
the audience pick his topics if challenged. This is one
interesting comic philosopher. Stanhope has no shortage of
opinion or material. One of his best lines this show was
a remark regarding the Iraq war... something to the effect
"You don't have to fly very far to fight for my freedoms
right here at home." Naturally there was much more to it
but you get the idea." - Comedy Review by ComedyCritic.com

Honest John
Host Club:
Comedy Thursdays at the Caribbean Grill
"We found one of the hottest comedians on stage Thursday
evening when Honest John took the mic at the Caribbean Grill
in Dallas. Honest John combined a rare gift of comic clarity
with west coast timing to make it a comedy night for the record
books. We knew it was going to be special when Honest John opened with
material other comics would be proud to close with, as he explained
the 22 drink minimum, Clinton's trip to Africa and the value
of seeing teeth in a jar, seemingly un-relatable topics, in a comedy
sequence that was just a preview of Honest Johns unique twists of
comic logic and the night to come. With some of the freshest material
we've seen on any stage, he touched the West Coast,
Middle East, Asia, politics, the economy, every race and
sexual preference, technology, sports and even breast feeding,
nipple pierced mothers. It was Honest John at comedy's best,
delivering a shockingly consistent string of uncommonly large
jocular detonations that had this audience sliding out of chairs to
dust the floor as he set them up for his next comedy masterpiece.
His comments on Rap "sampling" and the conviction of a comedian
rapist were pure insider gold. In the end, the audience managed to
pick themselves off the now polished floor to give Honest John a
well earned standing ovation. Honest John is honestly (I couldn't resist)
one of the hottest comedy talents on tour. Call your comedy club
and get this comedian booked while he has an opening. Then buy
tickets for the whole office. You won't regret a single minute!
Hope to see Honest John back in Dallas soon..." - Comedy Review by

G-Thang
Host Club:
Crystal's Entertainment Complex - Dallas
Dallas - "
We caught headliner G-Thang at Crystal's in Arlington. It was another great evening of comedy by Old School Players and New School Fools. G-Thang ramped the laughs up a notch with an unprecedented 90-minute of funny material. This is a comedian that has seriously funny inventory. If you're lucky enough to see him once, you'll remember this towel waving, fast talking, stage pacing comedian for the laughs. Given a choice between Popeye's and his girlfriend, ... he admits, he's a bit chubby, but just doesn't know how it happened, part of a bit that caught the audience square between the eyes. His ninja mailman stalking was pure comedy G-Thang. Thanks again to LosCodie and Crystal's for another great comedy show. G-Thang is a good thang. Catch him when you can.

Red Bone
Host Club:
Crystals Entertainment Complex - Arlington
Arlington - "Red Bone is an original. We saw him at Crystal's in Arlington Texas at
another LosCodie Show. You have to understand that Red Bone is 100% unique, a blend
of cultures, white, black and southern. In a time when society seems to expect
whites to be square and blacks to be cool, Red Bone is both white and cool.
Confused? He isn't and you won't be either. He's the real thing, no fake. All the
stereotypes fall in the face of Red Bone comedy. Yes, it's edgy. Yes, it's a bit
hip-hop. And yes, Red Bone is very funny. Red Bone proves white southern isn't
always "redneck" or blue collar. Sometimes comedy reviews are easy caricatures of
a personality or comic style. Red Bone doesn't make it easy in that respect. He is
an experience that has impact beyond the immediately funny comedy that he delivers
like a series of hand grenades. His description of visiting a black
church for the first and last time was a classic. His candle lit bath was a killer
and fat man shoe tying was just the beginning... Ok, I don't want to give it all
away, let's just say you need to see Red Bone. I promise, watching him work is
easily worth double the money." - Comedy Review by ComedyCritic.com

Todd Justice
Host Club:
Hyenas Comedy Club - Fort Worth, TX
"Get ready for some fun as Todd delivers the
comedy you just have to laugh at. While we saw him in a show that had him billed as a feature.
He had to be doing a favor for someone at Hyena's. This is a headliner 1000%. He has solid,
funny, original material and a polished stage presence. His expressions are his trademark.
The joke isn't all verbal, half the laugh is in the smirk, some eye action or shrug.
Todd really has his timing down with a polished relaxed presenation that makes laughing a
pure joy. This comedian has it all, well rounded and very funny. I expect to see him in a
television series. It's fresh fun and well worth the ticket. "Good'ole boy" with a double
twist, Todd really delivers. It's pure fun." - Comedy Review by The Comedy Critic

White Chocolate
Host Club:
Players Club - Dallas
"It was a "White Chocolate" night as this national headliner, "FunkyTown" (read that Fort Worth)
native, shot an endless series of comedic three-pointers at the Player's Club in Dallas Texas.
Clearly a contender for most valuable player at the Player's Club (couldn't resist) on the
night we saw him. He got the night started right when he dug out the red silkies from Trader's
Village, you're going to hit the floor when you see these. Between his cat named "Lucky" and
chasing the dog with "B.O.B." I'm still laughing. Ok, think about it... just the concept of a
cat named "lucky" has to take you a place or two if you have any imagination. Then there was
the pinatta beating and layaway mismanagement "White Chocolate" delivered a great comedy
performance." - Comedy Review by ComedyCritic.com

West End Comedy Theater - Dallas
Dallas - The West End Comedy Theater is located in the West End Entertainment District of
downtown Dallas. This is one of the top two comedy venues in Dallas. Nicely designed with
great stage, lighting and sound. The owners, Rob Poynor and Doug Ewart clearly knew
comedy and built to create the perfect environment. This is a space that's a bit hard to
describe. As you enter, the stage is to the right, bar to the left. Seating is on the
other side of a DJ booth that partially screens the seating from the bar. The loft-like
small shop mall setting for the multi-level building insure plenty to do before or after
the show. Great date venue. Lighting is just about perfect on the 1 foot rise stage.
For active comics the stage is plenty large for anything. Basic black and burnt red is
the theme. It would be hard to design a better facility. Other than drinks, I didn't
see food service but there are numerous restaurants within 100'. This is one of the
nicest comedy venues in Dallas, you have to visit and often. Unlike some other Dallas
venues, WECT offers a wide range of comedy including stand-up, skit, theater and improv.

Addison Improv - Dallas
"The Addison Improv is at the top of the ladder. The hotest talent, top service and
great food. So head up the stairs and into this Improv in Addison. Well
decorated with glass framed comedy posters outside in the common hallway. This
club was design for standup comedy by pros
that know the business. Get your tickets online or at the ticket window and plan to
stand in line until the doors open for immediate seating. The corner stage sports
the traditional Improv brick backdrop with logo. Great lighting and sound system with
projection video and roving spots. The stage has air to keep hot comics cool. Table
seating in curtain divided sections insures an intimate setting. Great club food and
full range of drinks complete the setting. One of the comedy clubs where we would
most like to see a show." - Comedy Review by The Comedy Critic

Backdoor Comedy Club - Dallas
Dallas - Linda Stogner and Jan Norton have built the premire comedy stage in Texas.
Clearly it took a blood sacrifice to achieve this comedy club masterpiece. It is everything that a comedy club should be.
What a pleasure. Fan or performer, this is the perfect setting for stand-up comedy.
The show was great and the food was exceptional. Their Quasadilla's may be
the best in Texas, lightly crisped and full of flavor. After a quick stop at the classic
ticket window, you're treated to a stand-up comedy "walk of fame" on your way back to a
speakeasy-like intimate showroom. The whole club makes you feel special. The size is
deceptive with only about 50 seats packed tightly around the stage. When the club
filled, it was clear the owners knew exactly what they were doing. It was perfect for a
great stand-up show. In a pinch it looked like they could handle another 30-40 fans in unused
terrace seating behind black curtain walls. Every inch of the club is meticulously
decorated with taste and tradition. You can't visit Dallas without catching a great
stand-up comedy show at the Backdoor Comedy Club. The club, comics and the food are truely
an unparalleled experience for any real stand-up comedy fan." - Comedy Review by The Comedy Critic

Dean Lewis and David Wilk
"Shtickmen"
Dallas - "Just when you thought you knew comedy, Jeff Hays, Eric Jewell and Dean Lewis re-write life and take the
audience on a path from watercooler funny to stand-up comedy stage. Somewhere between reality and fiction,
"Shtickmen" navigates a twisted line where you get a glimpse at another comedy reality through this creative
mockumentary. The story takes a look at the life and comedy career of "Jerry Martin", a fictional "local stand-up
comedian" scratching out a living as comedy teacher and driver's ed instructor. It's the funny life of a stand-up,
in a market where paying clubs won't pay the bills and making it means moving out. This new
release of the popular independent film is wildly entertaining. The newly added Director and Cast Commentary offers
another 84 minutes of priceless insight for the hard core comedy fan. Produced by stand-up comedians about their
industry this is a real collector's item. I enjoyed it for hours. As a bonus, you get live stand-up comedy routines
performed by three of the comedians that star in the film. As a comedy this movie is creatively written with
laughs throughout. "Shtickmen" is a funny look at "making it" told at so many levels by real comedians. A caricature
where the names really have been changed to protect or indite the guilty. Somehow this mockumentary probably contains
more everyday truth than fiction. This is a fun movie you'll want to own." - Comedy Review by The Comedy Critic

The Chinaman - Mark Britten
"That Ninja's Crazy"
Dallas - "Shot at the Bart Reed's Comic Strip in El Paso, this is The Chinaman live on-stage.
Shot with at least three cameras, this is a quality DVD. If you've seen Mark Britten you
know you're in for an exciting hour of dead-on rock impressions with a comic twist. But Mark
delivers far more than great impressions, cartoon voices and hilarious accents. He has some
of the best stand-up one-liners you will see on any stage. It all starts with a rock star
intro. Buy the DVD for an entertaining evening of comedy. This is a powerful comedy performance

Comedy Professionals
Are you a professional comedian or not? First, are you funny? Second can you be funny on stage for 20-40 minutes?
Have you been in comedy for 4 years or more? Have you toured enough to build a following, even locally? Do you write
enough that you can bring 10 minutes of fresh comedy to the stage every week? Can you remember your set or are
you still reading it? Are you selling a CD or DVD? Do you have a web site? Are you marketing to your fans? Are you
booked every week? Are you getting paid everytime you go up?
If not, why not? After 4 years you should have have earned a degree in Comedy, even after 2 years you would have
an associate degree. If you are any good, you deserve to
get paid, right? Maybe... You have to be able to make comedy clubs money based on your skills, fans and personal
marketing. Your fans, comedy skills and personal marketing are a measure of your value. Developing each area can be
a full-time job. These days that means writing and testing new matierial on stage. In a small comedy market with
limited venues you have to write more material. You need to spend your daylight hours, communicating with fans via
web and email. You also need to be developing products like CD's and DVD's for long term income. Finally you have to
promote yourself to comedy clubs who are looking to fill seats.
Remember, comedy clubs generally make their money on food and drink. Some do well on the door but usually split that
part of the income with the comedy talent against a guarantee. A club is going to book almost any comedy act that
fills seats. The more, the better. So the question is... How many seats can you fill in a given market? What kind
of fan base can you offer a local club. Do you have a reputation or routines that make you attractive to local radio
coverage? Do you have an email list for the market? Do you provide clubs with promotional materials like table tents,
posters or banners to help the club generate advance ticket sales?
Think "Barnum and Bailey". You are the circus. For one week or night you are coming to town. Are your posters up? Are
you scheduled for media coverage? Are your CD's and DVD's available at the club? Have you sent out emails? Does the club
and area media have your headshots, bio, and a press release? You don't get to be an entertainer until you become a
master promoter. These days, with computers and support you can do it all using online tools. Need help? You can get
it but you have to look beyond the stage for comedy success. That's what makes the difference between funny dishwashers
and comedy stars.
One other comment: Write or hit the road. If there are three clubs in town you have to write enough great new
material that you can go up twice a month at each club. Nothing worse than day old bread and stale material. If you
can't write volume, you better hit the road to increase the amount of time between repeat visits to the same venues.
So it's the pen or the road.

Comedians
As the Comedy Critic, I see more stand-up comedy than most non-comedians. I will always admire stand-up comedians. You must. They are brilliant, talented and dedicated. After all, the best follow the tradition of Samuel Clements (AKA Mark Twain) and Will Rodgers. Writers first, social commentators and performers all. They are the verbal matadors of their generation. On a good night they can take the stage with red cape and sword charging the mic with flashes of logic and outrageous lucidity. They explore life's neighborhoods and alleys while we take our intellectual expressways. They are at times immune to the dogma of society, somehow able to achieve a separation as outsiders looking in. But it's not so easy as to be a packaged formula, that would ignore the perspiration of viewpoint. I see the puddles left on stage night after night. Yet when asked, real stand-up comedians would not find their biggest challenge to be material but rather to simply find 100 people that will slow down long enough to listen and laugh.
Comedians are the highest order of live performer, rebel writers with an uneasy seat, expressing their dissatisfaction cloaked by the gift of humor, capable of scripted stage conversation, a kind of verbal Kabuki dance with the intellectual flexibility required to strike like lightening at any heckler bold enough to provoke a challenge. To survive they must by nature be writers possessed of wit. Only the "real" comedians bring a measure of fresh, new material to the stage every week. Nothing is more disappointing than the comedian that peddles the same shop worn material for years, too afraid of rejection or needy, to risk the gratifying applause for a real freedom of self expression. Oh the comedians know the stagnated pretenders that crave the warmth of a spot light but lack the burning, haunting voice that compels the real comedian to write and so do the fans. The pretenders are killing the art of stand-up, stealing the most valuable resource that a real stand-up has, his audience.
By coddling stagnant famous comics, booking for limited risk, censoring the words, homogenizing thought, comedy clubs, are slowly killing their own business. Yes, audiences pay for big names. It's a sure bet. But there are other promotional formulas that work. Audiences will also pay to see local "underdogs" make it big, head to head showdowns, radicals poke fun at the "establishment", and "oddities" that defy convention. Audiences buy the intellectual ride, the mind expanding experience. If the material is stale, the words are hollow, audiences stop paying, audiences stop coming. The smaller the market the greater the variety required. The fewer the comics, the more the must write. It isn't enough to find 40 minutes they can ride for years. They have to be capable of finding 10 new minutes every week.
And so it is the endless struggle to be heard, to express ourselves and have that expression confirmed. The same struggle each of us face in our own lives. For comedians it is amplified and played out on a stage. The best can echo what we feel but never find the words to express. They connect with our deepest frustrations and intoxicating joys. Stand-up is a verbal choreograph of underlying emotions and in the end, a wealth of original material. Developing the ability to tap into that reservoir takes years, not months for most. Every night we find out who has found their voice. And so they fight in backwater markets for open mic's in front of audiences where they find rewards in the connections they forge from stage risking total humiliation for anything less than perfection. An entire week of anticipation boils down to a 7 minutes under the glare of a spotlight where they earn their reputations.
